the future of pants

there was a time, not so long ago, when people did not have pants.  they wore leggings, or loincloths, or tunics.  they did not wear pants.  then, somebody came up with pants.  perhaps pants began as liederhosen, and expanded as people realized how frikkin' cold it is in northern europe.  but, howeve pants began, they soon took over the world.  along with bibles and guns, people brought pants to the natives.  but what will pants look like in the future?  will they grow more pockets as more gadgets are invented?  will pockets shrink as we develop multi-purpose gadgets?  will pants become flashier, or more plain?  will my denim jeans still be utilitarian and acceptable when i am an old man?  will my grandchildren abandon pants for stylish kilts?

i don't know what the future holds, but when i think about how much something as ubiquitous and mundane as pants has changed over the centuries, i can only wonder what the future of pants might be.
